Our recent experience at Papasan Rolls and Bowls was incredibly disappointing. Upon entering, we were directed to a booth, where we eagerly awaited a menu and some attention from the staff. Unfortunately, our wait extended to nearly 20 minutes, during which time we saw multiple staff members pass by without acknowledging us.
This lack of service left us feeling neglected and frustrated, especially since we had just walked from the hospital and were in need of a good meal to boost our spirits. To make matters worse, when we decided to leave due to the extended wait, not a single staff member bid us farewell.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - K Y.Fremont, CA063Nov 8, 2023
The chef at Papasan is meticulous and the Japanese culture and attention to detail comes out in all dishes. He takes great pride in the quality of fish and all ingredients and the presentation is beautiful!
The restaurant reminds us of Japan with its ambiance of the booths and Hello Kitty Display and AI robot service! The owners work so hard to cater to your every need.
We door dash from this place often as well. Like the restaurant, the food is packaged and displayed authentically as if you're in Japan. The owners are so kind and include a chocolate treat with each order!
We are Japanese and appreciate delicious Japanese cuisine. This is our FAVORITE Japanese restaurant!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jan 30, 2024
Ordered for pick up. Ready when we arrived as promised. Ramen noodles were perfectly cooked. The broth and toppings were delicious as well. Even the egg was on point. The tempura was average. Lion King roll was larger than expected. The only thing I wasn't expecting was the slather of mayonnaise at the bottom. Rice and salmon were so fresh and light. It makes a big difference when the two things that matter are hand in hand. Price is ok. Too bad there is no dining in but at least it's close by for pick up. When in need of a good bowl of ramen head over or door dash it.

WOW I must be late to the party as I have been missing out after my first here with my cousin! I literally have been living down the street from them for over 20+ years and this has been my first visit. I will say we just happen to come here when we had the heat wave and their AC broke on our visit here. Nonetheless our visit was still pleasant and great minus the heat inside.
My cousin and I decided to come here to catch up and get some grub together. We ordered the cucumber salad, the charasu bowl, poke salad, and 20 or 30 pc sashimi to share. Now I know it sounds a lot but we finished almost everything minus a few spoon fulls. Everything was great and we really enjoyed it all.
Service was really good just was hot from their AC unit not working. Staff was friendly as well. Get this, we even had a robot waiter that delivered otur food to the table. how cool right?!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 2792851840Jun 29, 2023
Located next to Italian restaurant off of Walnut Avenue in Fremont, in the Smart & Final shopping center. Went here after work with some beautiful coworkers to have dinner. It was not very busy. Sat down right away, Japanese style seating as chairs are pretty low.
Great service, Food was really good. Ordered a bento box with veggie tempura as a appetizer.
Salad, miso soup, tempura, California rolls with salmon teriyaki over the rice & fresh fruit cantaloupe. Good proportion. Hot tea & water upon request. Delicious Lychee ice cream given for dessert. Would definitely visit this hidden gem.
Owner? Said they do a lot of Catering of bento boxes for work functions. Which is a great idea.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amy K.Fremont, CA711037Nov 4, 2023
It's our family favorite. Family owned business with very friendly owners.
They have good ramen (big portions) and bento options; Their rolls are good too. Reasonable prices and very quick!
Now that we live much closer, we'd probably come very oftenHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jerica V.San Francisco, CA466Nov 3, 2023
Was craving Japanese food and stumbled upon this gem of a place! It was our first time dining here and we will definitely be back.
The food: fresh quality ingredients and perfectly prepared and cooked. We ordered the Bento Ninja with Ton Katsu, Gyoza and Sashimi (they served salmon). The Ton Katsu was one of the best we've had in the Bay Area! Tender and juicy inside, crispy on the outside. We also ordered the Bento Shogun with Beef Teriyaki, Tempura and Sashimi.. Also probably one of the best beef teriyaki's in a bento that we've had (not overcooked, tender with a little pink in the center- which I love). Salmon sashimi was fresh and they give you nice/thick/big cuts (3 pieces on a bento)!
We were so hungry and didn't think to take any pictures of the food, except for the ice cream we had in the end haha
The service: we were greeted by a nice woman (I suppose she's the owner) who made sure we were okay the whole time we were there. We never had to ask for a water refill and she also asked how our food was. She was awesome!
We also met "Bella", their robot cat LOL, who served our appetizer to us.
The woman who was taking care of my partner and I served us a scoop of ice cream on a cone! Not sure if this is standard or just so happened because it seemed like a slower night, but it was a nice final touch to our dinner!
The current decor is warm and cozy, almost like you're in someone's home. The woman mentioned their restaurant will be undergoing some renovations and it will be nice to see their updates. Nothing wrong with their current set up though.
Looking forward to our return so that we can try the other items on the menu like their sushi rolls and ramen.
Overall, I would recommend this place 100% to family and friends! No IHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Philippe D.Hayward, CA1236Aug 23, 2023Updated review
Back at it again with the Kamikaze Roll! This is a variation of the popular 49er roll that you'll see at most places but I'm convinced this is the best in Bay.
Today we also tried the maki rolls and the dragon roll. Delicious :)
My wife and I love going here not just for the food but the business owners as well. They're so personable. I don't expect it from most places but I feel like family visiting when we come by. At this point even the robot server is family too lolHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 19, 2022Previous reviewFor my family and I this is our favorite Japanese restaurant in the bay area. There's alot of love and thoughtful details that come through the efforts of the hostess and the chef. It's unfortunate that others have left with a poor impression. If the owners are able to mentor reliable staff this place would be a hit for everyone.
My favorite roll here is the kamikaze roll. If you like a good 49ner roll this is an excellent choice. It didn't occur to my until our last visit that they go through the effort of removing the lemon rind. That roll is perfect.
