PRESS RELEASE

Community Leader receiving award from BSA Scouts for her lifesaving work

No one really considers the importance of safety until something wrong has happened, but safety is always on the top of the list for Pamela Isom. It is because of her first aid training and interaction in the BSA (Boy Scouts of America) community, she is being honored with the Distinguished Citizen Award of 2022.

Pamela Isom is the CEO and founder of ICE Safety Solutions, a company that offers corporate and group safety training through several different methods such as the usage of traditional classroom settings all the way to advanced virtual reality tools. Her company has a large variety of clients; from small one-on-one classes all the way to large clients such as Coca-Cola and the Golden Gate Warriors. Having been born and raised in the Bay Area adopted with her twin brother by  a Japanese mother and a Black father from the southern part of the United States, Pamela says that this diverse background really has helps her relate to her customers and has really been instrumental in making her business such a success in our multicultural Bay area community.

Her passion for safety training started off at one of her first jobs in lifeguarding where she learned CPR and really enjoyed it. It was thanks to this training that she was able to help save her father’s life when he suffered from congestive heart failure. It was this lifechanging moment in her life that really made her more aware of safety and health. She later went to UC-Davis with a degree in Biological Sciences and went into the pharmaceutical industry as a Research Associate in the area of cardiovascular preclinical drug development, while volunteering for the American Heart Association teaching CPR. She later had her first daughter and decided to refocus her life back into CPR training and the business was born.

Her involvement with scouts happened while she was training a corporate client whose son was a scout and they mentioned that they were involved in BSA and asked her if she would be interested in teaching a group of scouts CPR First Aid for their Merit Badge. A few years later, in 2019, Pam had the idea to deploy Virtual Reality ( VR) based CPR First Aid training to bring a more immersive and interactive learning platform for long-term retention to her corporate clients and scouts. This led to more and more scout first aid instructional classes. Her interactive way of training and the usage of the virtual reality media was really enjoyed by this young generation, and they liked being able to learn from their mistakes in a safe environment and become more confident in their safety training. Pamela feels that both boys and girls should be involved with scouting because the life skills gained during their journey as a scout and their leadership experiences gained can make a positive impact in high school, college, their career, and the rest of their lives.

When asked what she likes the most about her job, Pamela stated that she loves that she can empower someone to get over the fear of any and all emergencies ranging from choking, cardiac arrest, bleeding, broken bones, active shooter, earthquake or even a fire and give them the confidence that they will not become ill, injured or lose a life.
